Biography

Andrew Wingreen joined the BJU Bruins staff as an assistant coach in July 2012. His responsibilities with the BJU Bruins include recruiting, scouting, player development, team travel, practice planning, and on floor coaching. Prior to his arrival in Greenville, Wingreen served as an assistant coach at Rockford University (NCAA III) in Rockford, IL. During his time there, the Regents finished with a 12-14 overall record and a 9-7 conference record.  Rockford would ultimately receive the #6 seed in the Northern Athletics Conference tournament before losing to eventual league champion, Edgewood College.

Unable to play collegiate basketball due to a heart disease, Wingreen began his coaching career as a student assistant coach at Northland International University under head coach, Peter Wehry.  Throughout his time at NIU, the Pioneers proved their capability to compete in the NCCAA and faced tough opponents from various NCAA II, NCAA III, and NAIA institutions.  Wingreen was a key ingredient for the Pioneers success and played a significant role in the development of their program.

Wingreen has also coached at several notable college basketball camps including Kansas, Marquette, Furman, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Green Bay.  Other elite camps that he has coached at are Five Star Basketball Camp, Mike Lee Basketball, and Dwight Howard Basketball Camp.  In 2010, Wingreen worked with the sports ministry Called to Greatness, which is led by Wayne Simien, an All-American at Kansas (2004 & 2005) and NBA Champion with the Miami Heat (2006).

In his current role as assistant coach, Wingreen values the role of sports for the sole purpose of giving God glory. His desire is to use the game of basketball as a tool to disciple and mold the hearts of players so that they can graduate and become godly husbands and fathers.

Wingreen earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Ministry from Northland International University ‘11 and is currently working on a Master of Arts in Coaching & Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine, which he is expecting to receive in Spring 2014.  He is also a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and enjoys going to their annual convention every year at the Final Four.

Wingreen is married to his wife, Julie, and they have two daughters.
